The Book Brings Me Back To The Fold

It took a book to get me hooked on the Twilight phenomenon, and it's taken a book to get me back with the program.

It wasn't like I was consciously avoiding the Twi-dom. I've still been working on Distilling Down, my fan fic, and loosely keeping up with the Twilight related news. Being in Ecuador made it harder, and real life has kind of intruded as well. Since I think you should Twi-hard or go home, I opted to go home for a while.

And then I saw this.

Bree Tanner

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. I want.

And now I can't quite stay away. I am actually pretty damn excited for this thing to come out in June. I've been struggling to get excited for the Eclipse trailer, in part because every time I see Bryce Dallas Howard's face my whole being rises up and screams THAT IS NOT RIGHT but this Bree Tanner thing? This I can be excited about.

Part of the money from the book sales will go to charity. This justifies everything.

MWAH-HAHAHA. . . and I'm totally sucked back in. I have some mega reading todo, having taken an effective leave of absence from my blog rolls since February, but from Taylor Lautner's birthday to those hot billboards of Kellan Lutz in his underwear, I am looking forward to catching up.

One Week To The Shirtless Wonder

I'm counting down . . .

Three

Two

One

One week until New Moon has been viewed by me and about a bajillion of my closest friends, who better not be loud when I'm trying to focus or I will beat the Twi-snot right out of them. There's only one thing left to do.

Re-read New Moon.

I know, I know. I blog about it, I watch the spoilers, I see the pics all day. Why haven't a I re-read this book? It's been sitting on my desk for weeks, just waiting for me to crack open the pages and dive right in, knowing I will be owned by the story until I am done.

Well, real life has been getting in the way a bit, but this week is the week! Enough spoiler watching and trailer re-playing. I've got to hit the book before I hit the theatre--and I think half the Twi-dom is going to be furiously flipping through the pages with me as we go.

Here's to those speed reading skills!

Dacre Stoker Publishes Dracula Sequel

File this under things that make you go hmmmmm . . . .

Apparently, one of the descendants of the original Dracula writer is coming out with a sequel.

Photobucket

While the original press release to accompany this talked a lot about reviving the heritage of Dracula and going back to the original characterizations, I somewhat blame Stephanie Meyer for this. And True Blood. After all, only in a universe where vampires sparkle and have fantastic love lives could an "authentic revival" of the original franchise involve the addition of a blood-sucking lesbian countess they'd like to have played in the movie by Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Odd, right? Because while the book does come out this November, they have already planned the movie version. They are trying to get Johnny Depp to play Dracula.

I can picture it . . . kind of. It's just a bit strange--I've been a vampire fan for many years and have read the book. I saw the Francis Ford Coppola version of Bram Stoker's Dracula too and I liked it. I support the casting of Johnny Depp in most things, so I guess I would watch it if they made it into a movie.

It's just really, really odd to me to see a book published in 1897 coming out with a sequel in 2009. Your thoughts?

Twilight Hits MSN.com

Hehehe . . .all the people who poo-poo my Twilife are now that very same people who now find it newsworthy. Here's the "reputable" MSN.com talking about how Twilight is bad for your love life, and bagging on the Bella character:

"Bella tells us repeatedly that Edward the smug vampire is "too perfect," (256) "flawless," (261) and has an "angel's face" (262). I nearly got brainwashed. But it's like, he could kill her at any second, yet she continues to trust and lust. Of course he doesn't kill her, so we're supposed to be grateful and think highly of him. Such manly restraint!"

There's more if you're interested . . .in the 4 reasons Twilight is just not that good for you.

Merch Madness: Illustrated Guide to Forks

Well, well, well. It appears that the good people down at the Chamber of Commerce in Forks have realized what a potential cash cow they have just for existing. They've come out with a new book, Twilight Tours: An Illustrated Guide to the Real Forks, which is now available for pre-order.

I'm torn. I am debating making a big trek to the NW this fall, but I like to pretend that it is 100% because I have a dear friend moving out there and I can totally stay with her and get caught up with her (while set stalking Vancouver together, hells yeah!). I mean, there is really no need for me to have this book, right? It's not like I would go there, right?

Hmmmm . . . . . . .thoughts?

Yes, I'm Late To The Party

Twilight had been going strong for quite some time before my hand slipped to my sister's shelf one fateful evening in late May. The smooth black book jacket was cool to the touch as I took it in my hand and cracked the spine . . . .

20 hours later it was done.

Not just the one book. The whole set. Plus Midnight Sun.

Life just wasn't the same afterward. Oh, I tried to pretend like I wasn't affected. Like I wasn't guzzling the Kool-Aid like a roofer in July.

Lies, all lies! My page view history calls me out. The same for the sudden spate of bookmarked sites that I must visit daily. As if the Twilight Top 21 could even begin to cut it . . . .

I'm speed reading my way through all of it now. ALL OF IT. Must . . . .read . . . the Twilight gossip, snark, and updates!

Work? Sleep? Who does that crap once they've discovered the pure, unadulterated goodness that is the Twiverse? I'd say bless you, Stephenie Meyer, bless you. . . . .but I'm not sure what I love more . . .the books themselves or everything that's come after.
